Ontario Rebates

How dare the Ontario gov't extend tuition rebates to only the bottom 83% of income earners. What abut the top 17%? #equality ยง #sarcasm
*headdesk* RT @andrew_leach: Students ask Ont to extend tuition reductions to those w/ family incomes above $160k/yr http://t.co/90XCNLQY
Important note: Canadian Federation of Students represent those who *already go to uni* and are heavily skewed to upper-income families.
The CFS is *not* a force for a progressive redistribution of income. Just the opposite.
Canadian Federation of Students opposes targeted tuition subsidies because they don't subsidise rich students? http://t.co/ENb1eRVY #onpoli
Ever notice how only issue that brings CFS to streets is possibility that rich will pay more? RT @AureliaCotta @andrew_leach @EmmMacfarlane
There are main 3 ways to help students: 1) targeted grants, 2) debt relief, 3) tuition subsidies. (1/3)
Rich kids can take advantage of only one of these three: the tuition subsidy.
So what is the overriding preoccupation of the CFS? Yep - tuition fees.
.@AureliaCotta My theory is composition of student pop'n is skewed rich, and they only benefit from tuition subsidy. So that's their focus.

.@gdinsmore Universal programs aren't always progressive. http://t.co/W1RGVI4z
.@MrNhuManh I know http://t.co/sxXMlmZF No-one should expect CFS to be force for redistributing income from rich to poor. Quite the opposite
I thought the Canadian Centre for Policy Alternatives was a force for progressive policies. I was wrong http://t.co/Az7oE19g
The takeover of the CCPA by the CFS is a very good example of pressure group politics.
What puzzles me is why progressive pressure groups don't try to take over the Fraser Institute.
@stephenfgordon You can't be progressive if you've already decided on the solutions before you ever look at the data.
@stephenfgordon The Fraser Institute and the CCPA are frequently just flip sides of the same coin.
Yup. Dumb and dumber. Sometimes they trade roles RT @daeaves: Fraser Institute and the CCPA are frequently just flip sides of the same coin.
@stephenfgordon Was the Fraser Institute designed to be a client of pressure groups like the CCPA? http://t.co/HOEruPDo
I, for one, am happy the CCPA is defending the interests of wealthy Ontarians like me. #MoreForTheOnePercent
